According to latest news, talk is circulating again among the development community about the Nintendo 3DS abilities, and now more details concerning the actual hardware used in the device are coming to light.
From what we hear, development kits for the 3DS include an analog stick as well as a 3DS camera. The 3D camera is being developed in conjunction with a partnership (supposedly with Sharp, who will also be handling the development of the screen to be used in the unit). According to our sources, the 3DS camera will have the ability to capture not only 3D images, but will be able to also do player motion detection.
The suggestion that the analog stick on the 3DS is a rumor that we heard from a variety of sources claiming to have knowledge of the situation from the start. The decision to move into the direction of adding an actual analog-type stick could go a long way to addressing one of the major complaints of many of the gaming handhelds, but we will have to see how it works in practical use.
We still don’t know the details of the actual hardware processing that the 3DS will offer, but as we have told you recently, sources we have talked with claim that development units have impressive processing power.
